The production of Don Giovanni by a French team of Baroque specialists is analysed from the perspective of their use of the Drottningholm theatre. The producer erected a box on the stage of the theatre, as a stage on a stage, which completely concealed the perspectival wings so characteristic of Drottningholm. The visual and aural consequences are discussed, with an emphasis on the sightlines, the audibility, and the dynamics of movement, all of which went against the qualities of the stage. The reviewers of this production suggested that the concept might fit into any theatre except from that at Drottningholm.
