How can a historian access the dynamics of performances that took place a long time ago? The author argues that a praxeology of theatre historiography can take account of the energetic and communicative ‘eventness’ that historical theatre practices involved. While the experimental restaging of dramatic works from the past cannot provide us with an experience of historical theatre practices, it can at least provide us with experiences of historically informed theatre practices.
